Sean McDermott Reveals Thoughts on Bills' Deflating Preseason Loss

It was a tough 60 minutes of football in Orchard Park in the Buffalo Bills ' 33-6 preseason loss to the Chicago Bears. The team was unable to produce a touchdown on offense and surrendered 27 points to Chicago in the second half.

While a preseason loss has no impact on the standings in the grand scheme of the season, it certainly does not have a positive impact on a locker room looking to have some momentum and optimism heading into the regular season.

In a press conference following the game, head coach Sean McDermott didn't pull his punches.

"Our standard was not out there today," said McDermott. “That’s not how we play, so there is a lot we need to do to get ourselves ready to go here... Self-inflicted wounds are hard to overcome, and then you’ve got to play an opponent on the other side.”

While McDermott's initial reaction to the loss certainly wasn't positive, he did speak on how the team can improve on their mental mistakes and put the game behind them.

"We've got to learn from it," said McDermott . "I think we have to be truthful about what we saw out there. And really it started with, I felt like, beating ourselves quite a bit, just with pre-snap penalties. I think it was eight, eight of the 11 maybe, 11 total penalties, eight of which were some form of pre-snap, or post-whistle. So let's just start there."

Although the opener loss stung for the Bills, they will have a week to move on and prepare for their next opponent when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday.
