    Celebrating John Starks Knicks Career

    By Lance Roberson,

Without John Starks, the 1990s New York Knicks team wouldn't feel the same. The irritating guard, with notable fumbles during his tenure, grew into fan-favorite status. Although the Knicks didn't win a championship, their physically demanding and, at times, dirty defense mirrored the edginess of New York.

Starks turned 59 on Aug 10, impressively making a mark in New York as an Oklahoma native. Of the 13 seasons spent in the NBA, Starks played 602 games in eight seasons with the Knicks. Despite having a Southern accent, Starks was an honorary New Yorker.

"Did this dude just did this," is one of the more meme-worthy moments in Starks' career. During a recording for the critically acclaimed documentary 30 for 30 Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. the New York Knicks, Starks made the aforementioned hysterically grammatically incorrect phrase when discussing Miller's flop vs. the Knicks guard in a playoff game.

Starks was an unbelievable character with a relatability regarding his "why did he do that" moment in the NBA.

However, despite a few shortcomings in high-pressure situations, Starks earned All-Defensive second team for the 1992-93 season. Starks was a pest on defense. Although his hard-hat style of play didn't always merit media attention, the Knicks guard earned recognition during the 1993-94 season.

Starks earned All-Star status in 94, the same year the Knicks clinched an NBA Finals berth, albeit losing in a 4-0 sweep against the Houston Rockets.

You can't mention the '90s Knicks without envisioning Starks in the backcourt.
