After being traded to the New York Mets by the Washington Nationals, outfielder Jesse Winker has gotten off to a slow start with New York.

As of now, Winker has had 25 plate appearances with the Mets, and has a .612 OPS. He also has gone seven for 24 at the plate with one run and one RBI. That's on top of a .292 batting average.

It's also worth noting that Winker hasn't played every day with the Mets and has been on the bench at times rather than in the starting lineup.

But nonetheless, it's clear that the 30-year-old from Buffalo, NY hasn't quite lived up to the hype that many fans got when the news broke that he was traded to the Mets.

New York is certainly going to need Winker to get it together if they want to make a serious postseason run. As of now, they have been shut out in back-to-back games against his old team, the Seattle Mariners. Thus, they are now a half game out of the third wild-card spot in the National League.

Before his New York career began, Winker started with the Cincinnati Reds after he was added to their 40-man roster at the conclusion of the 2016 season. Throughout his five seasons in Cincinnati, he had a .288 average and he hit for power with 66 total home runs in 1,523 plate appearances. He then went on to play for the Mariners, followed by the Milwaukee Brewers and the Nationals, and his average was at .255 combined with those three teams. He has a history with Mets fans, especially at Citi Field after waving to them during a few games as the opposing team's player. When Winker found out he was being traded to the Mets, he felt excited and glad to be on a team that has been winning a lot.

Winker had previously signed a $2 million contract with the Nationals last offseason and he will be a free agent in November. Only time will tell on whether or not he steps up for the Mets and perhaps the team could sign him long-term.
