NYC, state officials reveal free ways to get kids off their phones and outside: ‘Don’t scroll through life’
City and state officials urged New York parents Tuesday to get their kids off their phones and outside — and they gave a few suggestions on how to do it. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that pools at New York’s state parks will be free to all for the rest of the summer — including at Jones Beach on Long Island, Riverbank State Park in Manhattan, Roberto Clemente State Park Pool in The Bronx and Bear Mountain in the Hudson Valley. The state will also chip in $1.5 million in transportation grants to help get disadvantaged kids to swim lessons at the pools,...
New York Concert Fans Rank The Best Venues in the State
I've been having a really good year when it comes to going to concerts, musicals and comedy shows! First of all, we've had some incredible WRRV Sessions this year with the likes of Papa Roach, Judah & the Lion, Blame My Youth, and Royel Otis at Newburgh Brewing Company. Outside of that, I've already seen Fall Out Boy and Jimmy Eat World at the MVP Arena in Albany, and Amos Lee at The Egg in Albany. Later this summer, I'm going to see Passenger at the Beacon Theater in New York City.
NYC asks judge to immediately snuff out illegal vape wholesalers
The Adams administration has asked a Manhattan judge to step in and immediately squash the selling of illegal, flavored vapes by 11 wholesalers in New York. The city filed suit against the wholesalers in April, citing data that kids and teens are getting hooked on the flavored e-cigarettes at alarming rates. Now the city’s lawyers say they need a preliminary injunction to force the illegal, flavored vape peddlers to quit their noxious practices immediately. “While we have already filed a lawsuit to hold these distributors accountable for their actions, the motion we have filed will help us ensure that they can no longer...
New Map Shows The Traffic Violence Toll Of Hochul’s Congestion Pricing Cowardice
Gridlock Gov. Kathy Hochul decision to pause congestion pricing will allow carnage to continue to spread on Manhattan streets, as drivers kill and maim pedestrians and cyclists throughout the would-be tolling zone. A new interactive map of Manhattan south of 60th Street — where congestion pricing tolls were supposed to...
Gov’s Interborough Express faces uncertain future after gov’s congestion pricing pause
In 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul announced what would become her first major public transportation proposal. During her first-ever State of the State address that year, Hochul outlined her “bold idea” for the Interborough Express, a 14-mile-long light-rail to be built along a stretch of old train track not used for passenger service in 100 years. Running from Jackson Heights to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, the new line would serve as a vital connector to a number of neighborhoods that have long lacked easily available public transit options.
