F Dallas Cowboys' left tackle Chuma Edoga played only one series in Sunday's preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams, but that did not necessarily come by a coach's choice.

The offensive lineman left the game with a foot injury and has been ruled out. It is unclear what his expected scope of work would be in the preseason opener. Nonetheless, Tyler Guyton stepped in on the Cowboys' second series.

But the rookie had his time short lived, exiting after his lone series for Asim Richards. That changed seemed more according to plan that Edoga's exit.

Many expected Guyton to claim the left tackle spot by this time in training camp, but the Cowboys listed Edoga ahead of the rookie on the team's first unofficial depth chart released this week.

Edoga, drafted in 2019 by the New York Jets, spent his first four seasons with the franchise before joining the Dallas Cowboys last season. He saw some starting action but served mainly as the backup to former Cowboy Tyron Smith.

There is no update on the severity of Edoga's apparent injury. But depending on that status, Guyton may need to expedite his own learning process at the left tackle spot.
