The Los Angeles Rams might have found a gem deep in the 2024 NFL Draft. Selected in the sixth round as the 213th pick overall of this year’s draft, wide receiver Jordan Whittington turned heads in his NFL preseason debut on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys at home.

Whittington led the Rams in the Dallas game with 74 receiving yards on six catches and nine targets.

After the game, Rams head coach Sean McVay gushed over the first-year pro from the Texas Longhorns football program.

“He played like a grown man with the ball in his hands, (and) did a great job without it,” said McVay about Whittington, per Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic . “He’s going to be a factor for us.”

Rams and NFL fans took notice of Whittington’s performance, with many thinking that he’s the newest version of Los Angeles wideout Puka Nacua. It can be recalled that Nacua was selected by the Rams in the fifth round (177th pick overall) of the 2023 draft before turning into a star for LA’s offense.

In his first year in the pros, Nacua became a Pro Bowler and amassed 1,486 receiving yards with six touchdowns on 105 receptions.

“The next Puka Nacua is Jordan Whittington. Gosh dang it, Sean McVay..”

“Jordan Whittington is exactly what I expected. Closest thing to a Puka Nacua in this draft. I’ve said it. I know its only preseason but I think you see him quite a bit this year”

“Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua and now the Rams got some dude named Jordan Whittington out there looking like the first 2 smh”

“Don’t tell me the Rams found another Puka Nacua in Jordan Whittington”

“The #Rams really found another Puka Nacua in Jordan Whittington.”

“NFL defenses when they see the Rams found another Puka Nacua in Jordan Whittington”

It remains to be seen whether Whittington could indeed outplay his draft position just like Nacua did a season ago, but it looks like the promise is there.

During his time with the Longhorns, Whittington racked up 1,757 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 141 receptions.
