Way-Too-Early Mock Draft: Jets Pick Another Polarizing Passer
By Anthony Licciardi,
As the New York Jets stare down the barrel of a season with Super Bowl expectations, there’s a distinct urgency surrounding the entire organization. A de facto playoff mandate hangs over the administration, but anything less than a deep playoff run would be considered a disappointment.
Few teams, however, are at risk of losing the quarterback capable of bringing home the Lombardi Trophy.
At some point in the not-so-distant future, the Jets are going to have to replace quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Could Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders take the mantle atop New York’s depth chart?
“The bright lights of New York have troubled many quarterbacks, but perhaps no passer has been better prepared for the spotlight than Shedeur Sanders,” Owain Jones wrote.
“The Colorado product has struggled with offensive line play, which will likely improve for the 2024 season. Look for Sanders to showcase his high-velocity arm strength, field vision, and acute anticipation at a higher level this season.”
Drafting Sanders, in part, means drafting his father, Hall of Fame cornerback and Colorado coach Deion Sanders. That doesn’t necessarily have to be a negative.
This selection would unequivocally play poorly in the headlines as Primetime comments on the adversity the Jets will inevitably face. But New York has shown it prioritizes talent over potential controversy, and no one is more prepared for the spotlight than Sanders. He’s thrived in it thus far and, with adequate improvements around him, can take another step forward.
Make no mistake, Sanders has earned the first-round conversations he’s found himself in. And while some teams may take issue with the noise surrounding him, it only takes one to fall in love.
With a strong season, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the Jets choosing a second consecutive polarizing passer to play point guard on a contending team.
