'Movin' On Up!' Steelers C Zach Frazier To See Increased Workload

The Pittsburgh Steelers have spent considerable resources on the offensive line over the last two years. In last year’s draft, they selected tackle Broderick Jones in the first round. This year, Pittsburgh used its first two selections to select tackle Troy Fautanu in the first round and center Zach Frazier in the second round.

While Frazier was originally believed to be the backup behind starter Nate Herbig, he is said to be moving up the depth chart. He saw his first preseason action this past week in a 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans.

On the first two drives, Herbig had fumbled exchanges with quarterback Justin Fields. Frazier entered on the third drive of the game and didn’t have any issues with his snaps.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin spoke on Sunday about an increased workload for the former West Virginia Mountaineer.

"He's one of the guys I'm talking about,” Tomlin said. “He was in the stadium on Friday. He's got that in-stadium exposure. So, it's reasonable to expect him to be significantly better. Next week we are going to position Zach to do so with an increased workload”

Frazier played well in his debut giving up zero quarterback pressures and getting a 72.2 run blocking grade from Pro Football Focus . This year's No. 51 overall pick understands what it means to be on the offensive line in Pittsburgh .

"I know how much O-line means to the Pittsburgh Steelers and their long tradition there of having great offensive linemen and great offensive lines, so it’s special," Frazier said.

As the preseason continues, Frazier could be working himself into the lineup as the starter before the season opens. The Steelers continue their preseason schedule this week as they host the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night.
