Leaked Video of Noah Lyles at Olympics Sparks Questions About COVID Diagnosis

If you're U.S. sprinting star Noah Lyles, now might be time to get out of the public eye for a few weeks.
It's been a rollercoaster for the Team USA star over the past couple of weeks at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. It started out with Lyles getting unlimited adoration from fans thanks to his photo finish in the 100m final, winning the gold medal by five thousandths of a second. Since then, though, things have gone a bit downhill.
In Lyles' signature event, the 200m, he finished in third place and got the bronze medal. Immediately after the event, he declared that he had been diagnosed with COVID-19, which was his reason for not winning the race.
Now, a leaked video on social media shows Lyles enjoying his nightlife in Paris, partying and dancing in the club with fellow Team USA members.
A couple of days ago, Lyles posted to his page that he was COVID-free, but this video certainly doesn't help the narrative that is growing online that he was playing sick after losing the race.
All of this backlash now comes on top of the outrage that Lyles sparked once again with the NBA community on Sunday, with a story coming out about his comments regarding Minnesota Timberwolves and NBA star Anthony Edwards.
According to Time , Lyles rejected an offer to attend an Adidas shoe release event for Edwards last year. On top of that, he took a jab at the rising NBA star.
“You want to do what?” Lyles said. “You want to invite me to [an event for] a man who has not even been to an NBA Finals? In a sport that you don’t even care about? And you’re giving him a shoe? No disrespect. The man is an amazing athlete. He is having a heck of a year. I love that they saw the insight to give him a shoe because they saw that he was going to be big. All I’m asking is, ‘How could you not see that for me?’”
As I said at the top, now might be a good time for Lyles to step out of the spotlight for a few weeks. Eventually, the news cycle will pass, and the backlash will cease, but for now, it doesn't feel safe for the Olympic gold medalists in the streets.
