PGA Tour Golfer Blasted By Fans For 'Selfish' Move To End Wyndham Championship

This year's Wyndham Championship ended in bizarre fashion thanks to a polarizing decision by golfer Matt Kuchar.

The tournament was suspended on Sunday and resumed play the following morning with Kuchar as the lone holdover.

The 46-year-old teed off on his 72nd hole at the Sedgefield Country Club but decided not to take his second shot due to darkness. Had he just powered through and finished the par-5 18th hole, the tournament would have been over.

Kuchar's decision baffled fans because the veteran golfer was seven strokes away from tournament winner Aaron Rai, who ended -18.

Kuchar's decision prevented dozens of staff members from being able to clear out the tournament. It also may have cost him some fans given how much negative attention he received on X.

"Matt Kuchar pulling off a crazy selfish move. While not in contention, he has chosen to not finish 18 due to darkness. Just him. So tons of staff and crew have to come back for just him to finish half a golf hole."

"Matt Kuchar would like to speak to the manager"

"Hope this was worth it Matt Kuchar"

"Every Wyndham Championship volunteer when Matt Kuchar said he’ll finish tomorrow," one fan captioned with a meme of Simone Biles.

"in case you aren’t watching the golf: matt kuchar, who is T-12 and has no shot of making the playoffs and no shot of winning this tournament, just marked his ball in 18 fairway due to darkness while his group finished & will now come back to play a half-hole ALONE tomorrow."

Kuchar resumed play by himself at 8 a.m. and ended up with a par. He finished with a final score of -11, the same one he had prior to ending play the previous day.
