Paul Finebaum Reveals Which 'Dominant' University Could Join SEC Expansion

The ACC's future is uncertain as some schools are unhappy with the current grant of rights agreements, which are not set to expire until 2036. Powerhouse ACC programs like Florida State Seminoles and Clemson Tigers could be on the move.

While some believe both schools would be suitable for the SEC if they were to depart from the ACC, ESPN's Paul Finebaum has his eye on another ACC program.  After speaking to sources knowledgeable about the situation and trying to gauge potential reactions in the event of the ACC dissolving, Finebaum suggested that the North Carolina Tar Heels would be a good fit for the SEC. He pointed out that UNC is the dominant university in the state and is highly respected nationally.

"They are an attractor for a couple of reasons," Finebaum said. "No. 1 North Carolina is the dominant university in that state... also presidents make those decisions, not football geeks. The university is highly thought of."

Finebaum has previously stated that North Carolina would be at the top of the SEC's expansion list. He added that the situation is somewhat uncertain because there are "a million different theories." One of these theories involves whether North Carolina would bring someone along with them or make a move independently.

He added that he doubts Florida State would be its running mate due to its antics in trying to leave the conference, and Clemson may have made itself guilty by association. Therefore, it appears the Tar Heels have the best chance of joining the SEC if further realignment occurs.
