FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Rookie running back Deshaun Fenwick is back for his second tour of duty with the New England Patriots.

Just 10 days removed from being released, Fenwick has re-signed with the Patriots, per a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

The undrafted first-year running back had participated in the team’s offseason workout program and the early portions of training camp. However, he was cut in a corresponding roster move to the Pats’ signing safety A.J. Thomas. Having cleared waivers, Fenwick recently worked out for the Pittsburgh Steelers. New England’s release of veteran receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster on Friday cleared the necessary roster spot to pave the way for Fenwick’s return.

Fenwick was signed by New England as a rookie free agent out of Oregon State in May. The 6-1, 223-pounder played his first three college seasons at South Carolina before transferring to Oregon State for three more seasons. Overall, the 24-year-old played in 50 college games and had 386 rushing attempts for 2,118 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Known for his blend of power, quickness, and vision, Fenwick is at his best when operating in zone-blocking schemes. With the Patriots, he once again joins a running back corps consisting of starter Rhamondre Stevenson, veteran Antonio Gibson, third-year back Kevin Harris, and roster hopefuls Ja’Mycal Hasty and fellow undrafted rookie free agent Terrell Jennings.

Fenwick was present as a participant for Monday’s practice on the fields adjacent to Gillette Stadium and is expected to participate in Tuesday’s joint session with the Philadelphia Eagles in Foxborough, Mass.
