Houston Rockets guard Cam Whitmore is entering his second season in the NBA, and he's a player who has potential to really break out.

Whitmore, the No. 20 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, averaged 12.3 points per game despite playing only 18.7 minutes per contest.

"If we’re talking upside, it’s hard to look past Whitmore and not be optimistic," The Athletic insider Kelly Iko writes . "Don’t get me wrong, it took the rookie some time to adjust to life under head coach Ime Udoka, a period that included a stint in the G League. And he’s still developing his live-game processor, decision-making and commitment to defense. But, man, this kid can really go. How on Earth 18 teams passed on him on draft night still confuses me to this day. Jalen Hood-Schifino? Really?"

Whitmore was viewed as a potential top-five pick going into the draft, but he experienced a slide that still really doesn't have much of an explanation to this day.

The Rockets aren't complaining though, as they now have another first-round pick that can help build the foundation of their team.

Whitmore is only going to get better with the more reps he gets and the more he grows in the NBA. He'll only be 20 years old when he starts playing in the upcoming season, and the sky is truly the limit for who he can become as a player for the Rockets and in the NBA.
