The Washington Commanders have a new offense. New coordinator Kliff Kingsbury brings a balanced attacked to D.C. The Commanders may have dropped their preseason opener to the New York Jets, but rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels impressed in his debut and it appears one of his weapons may be making a move inside.

Receiver Jahan Dotson, originally selected to play opposite Terry McLaurin, saw plenty of time in the slot on Saturday. According to Pro Football Focus , all of Dotson’s snaps on Saturday were in the slot.

“The Commanders started with Terry McLaurin and Dyami Brown out wide and Dotson in the slot,” writes PFF. “Olamide Zaccheaus later replaced Brown for a few plays on the drive, and despite Zaccheaus being a primary slot receiver in recent seasons, Dotson was still in the slot with Zaccheaus out wide.”

Dotson is a speedy receiver with great hands. The 5-11, 182-pounder out of Penn State is actually a perfect choice for the slot in the Kingsbury offense.

It’s certainly not a demotion as he is likely to see more targets from his rookie quarterback and be on the field consistently as Kingsbury loves to utilize three receiver sets the majority of the time.

Receiver Dyami Brown has had a tremendous camp and connected with Daniels on a 42-yard pass play down the right sideline to get the Commanders into Jets’ territory. If he continues to build that trust with Daniels, Brown will also see considerable playing time.

The Commanders take on the Miami Dolphins on the road as the preseason continues this week.
