What to Make of Latest Jets-Haason Reddick Declarations

    By Nick Faria,

Haason Reddick has requested a trade from the New York Jets - just four months after Gang Green traded for him out of Philadelphia.

For their part, the Jets have also stated they would not trade Reddick under any circumstances.

So where do we go from here?

Outside of the very loud public statements made by both sides of the aisle, there won't be any changes anytime soon for the Jets or Reddick. New York won't negotiate with a player who has not attended training camp, while Reddick won't show up until he's given the contract he's looking for.

The next stage of this entire ordeal is for Reddick to actually sit out of regular season games.

By not being with the team for their preseason opener, the All-Pro pass rusher showed he's willing to get fined more than he already has (over $1 million).

New York, meanwhile, owns the rights to Reddick for the final year of his contract. Should the former first-round pick not report to camp or in games, the Jets would simply move his rights over to the 2025 season.

    Around and around we go.

Reddick's trade request play was the last bit of leverage he owned. Now, with the Jets calling his bluff as publicly as he did theirs, the two sides remain angry with each other.

Without leverage, though, Reddick is going to be forced to either tank his market by missing games this season or coming down dramatically in his current asking price.

It may seem like a fiasco now, but trust me, there's a lot more still to come.
