Lions add depth at QB and LB, waive WR Antoine Green

Dealing with some preseason injuries , the Detroit Lions added more depth at a couple spots on Monday.

The club announced the signings of quarterback Jake Fromm and linebacker Ty Summers while waiving injured wide receiver Antoine Green and released offensive lineman Ike Boettger.

Boettger was signed for depth a day before veterans were due at Allen Park for the start of training camp, and Green was expected to be in the mix for one of the final wideout spots .

Fromm, the former Georgia quarterback who has bounced around to a few different NFL teams with little playing time, joins the Lions while Hendon Hooker recovers from a concussion suffered in the first preseason game.

Summers — a former depth linebacker for the Packers, Jaguars and Saints — bolsters a group that head coach Dan Campbell said Monday is having its depth tested already. He noted that Malcolm Rodriguez and Malik Jefferson are improving as they recover from injuries and Jefferson could be active in a few days but DaRon Gilbert also tweaked something on Sunday and the team needed more help.

The Lions play their second preseason game on Saturday in Kansas City.
