Jets Finally Have Correct Plan in Place for Haason Reddick's Holdout

From an objective standpoint, the New York Jets have bungled the entire Haason Reddick issue from the beginning.

Whether it was trading for a player who wanted a new deal without said deal coming together, trading away a player at the acquired assets positions therefore increasing his value, and then somehow being surprised when that asset held out for more money, the Jets are not absolved from blame in this situation.

That also doesn't mean they are in the wrong for how they are handling the situation now.

In fact, it's fair to say that the Jets are finally in the right mindset when it comes to Reddick for the first time.

With the All-Pro pass rusher officially requesting a trade from the team that acquired him just four months ago, the Jets do not have to agree to any of Reddick's demands. They own his rights for the 2024 season, and if he doesn't play at all this season, the 2025 season as well.

General manager Joe Douglas said as much in his statement Monday afternoon - just 30 minutes after Reddick's trade request.

“We have informed Haason that we will not trade him, that he is expected to be here with his teammates, and that he will continue to be fined per the CBA if he does not report,” Douglas said in his statement.

In short, Douglas is responding to Reddick's trade request bluntly.

    "Show up or shut up."

It's taken a while but the Jets are finally doing the right thing in the later stages of their negotiating block with Reddick.
