Sale Looks to Revive Braves Pitching in Series Opener vs. Giants

The Atlanta Braves are looking to get their feet back under them in game one of the series versus the San Francisco Giants on Monday night.

After choking a seven-run lead to the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, the Braves are looking to break out of a 1-7 stretch. Atlanta's pitching is also looking to resurge after surrendering more than nine runs a game in that stretch with a 5.43 ERA since the All-Star break.

For the Braves, Chris Sale (13-3, 2.75) might be the best candidate to get things going again. However, he has the tough tough task of facing the reigning NL Cy Young winner in Blake Snell (2-3, 4.31).

The dominant veteran lefties are on different trends recently, though. Sale is looking to rebound from a 4.2 inning, 10 strikeout performance in which he allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks. For the Giants, Snell was decent last time out, but he tossed a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds the time before that.

Like the pitching matchup, these teams are trending in opposite directions. The Braves are 61-56 and 3-7 in their last 10, while the Giants are 1.5 games behind Atlanta at 61-59 but are 7-3 in their last 10.
