Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran was suspended for two games by the team on Monday, August 12, following an August 11 incident in which he shouted a homophobic slur at a fan who heckled him. Duran issued an apology after the game for using a "truly horrific word."

Now, a notable Boston politician is attempting to enter the picture.

According to Boston Herald Red Sox reporter Gabrielle Starr, "Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has requested a meeting with the Red Sox regarding the Jarren Duran incident."

Fans on social media immediately began to give the 39-year-old Democratic mayor a reality check on her desired involvement in the situation.

"Of all the virtue signaling, this is most virtue signaling. So stupid," one top commenter wrote on X.

"This is getting stupid," another added .

Another wrote , "He said a word, he didn’t murder anybody. As insensitive as the word can be, if words hurting your feelings are your greatest gripe in life, then life is golden. No need to use him for PR points as a politician."
