A Wisconsin football commit in the 2025 recruiting class was among those named as the top players in the country heading into his senior season.

Kicker/punter Erik Schmidt was named to the Preseason MaxPreps All-America First-Team , earning the honors as a punter.

Schmidt, a Milwaukee native, is ranked as the No. 1 punter and the No. 26 kicker in the country, according to Kohls Kicking.

The Marquette University High School standout committed to Luke Fickell and the Badgers in June as a preferred walk-on, choosing UW and PWO offer from Michigan and full scholarship offers from Missouri, Notre Dame, and Boston College.

In his junior season, Schmidt went 8/12 on field goal attempts and averaged 42 yards per punt en route to All-State, All-Region, and All-Greater Metro Conference honors, capping off the year by securing a WIAA Division 1 State Championship win.

Schmidt recently earned a spot in the Under Armour All-American game and has now followed it up by receiving his second All-American nomination.

When Schmidt makes his way to Madison, he will have an opportunity to battle for a starting spot with Atticus Bertrams, who will need to show some improvements in 2024.

Schmidt is part of a 2025 Wisconsin football recruiting class that currently ranks as the No. 25 class in the nation.
