In what was one of their most embarrassing losses in recent memory, the New York Yankees got clobbered on the road by the Chicago White Sox on Monday night, 12-2.

The 2024 White Sox are a historically bad team. They entered Monday’s game versus the Bronx Bombers with just 28 wins. No other team has fewer than 44 wins to date.

But for Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo, the defeat at the hands of Chicago was not anything out of the ordinary.

"I think this was a normal day,” Verdugo said when asked about whether the loss to the White Sox was some reality check for New York (via Gary Phillips of NY Daily News Sports ).

“Another day where it just so happens that we're on the tough side of it. It's baseball, right? I mean, yeah, they're one of the worst teams if you want to put it that way. But these guys are still big leaguers. They can still have days where they're clicking."

Verdugo, who went 1-for-3 with two walks against the White Sox, might want to walk back his comment, though.

“and this is exactly what is wrong with the franchise!”

“Loser mentality from a loser player”

    “Such a loser.”

“Such a loser mentality from a guy who should be benched for Dominguez”

    “Verdugo always been a loser”

“Verdugo with an all-time awful quote day. Sheesh.”

“a normal day getting blown out by 10 RUNS to the worst team the sport has seen since World War 1”

The Yankees are in a tight race in the American League East with the Baltimore Orioles, who remain on top of the division, thanks to New York’s loss to the White Sox. Baltimore owns a 70-49 record – just half a game in front of the 70-50 Yankees, who will try to get back at Chicago this Tuesday night.
