How Concerned Should Giants Be Over Malik Nabers' Injury?

It did not take long for Malik Nabers to draw comparisons to another New York Giants star rookie early on in training camp.

Nabers' big-play ability and striking consistency had many in East Rutherford comparing him to former Giants' great Odell Beckham Jr. Now, the two may be linked in more ways than one.

New York's sixth-overall pick suffered a minor ankle sprain this week at practice - an injury that is not considered too concerning at this time with the 2024 regular season a month away from beginning.

For those who remember, OBJ missed the first four games of his career (and most of training camp) due to a hamstring injury. Despite the injury, the LSU standout recorded 91 catches for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns during his rookie season.

The Giants are hoping for similar production from Nabers - another LSU star wide receiver. While the All-American receiver has been working out at camp unlike Beckham did back in 2014, New York knows they need to keep their rookie wideout healthy to be successful in the upcoming season.

In 2014, Big Blue had solid contributions from Rueben Randle, and a banged-up Victor Cruz. There were other quality pass catchers in New York's offense to allow OBJ to flourish with Eli Manning.

Nabers doesn't have that outside of Darius Slayton.

If the first-round star is going to have an impact on New York's offense right away, he'll need to do so as the center of attention already in Brian Daboll's offense.

Doing so on a bad ankle certainly isn't the best either.
