Joel Embiid created history this summer by becoming the first active Philadelphia 76ers player to win a gold medal at the Olympics for Team USA. That is incredible when you consider the number of high-profile players who have represented the franchise over its history.

76ers fans will be hoping that the experience of playing at the top level in the Olympics will help Embiid when the NBA playoffs come around.

The 76ers are expected to be competing for the Championship next season, having added Paul George to their ranks this summer on a four-year, $212 million deal.

Now that Embiid is back from the Olympics, it looks like his contract will be a topic of discussion and soon as well.

According to Michael Kaskey-Blomain on 97.3 ESPN , Embiid is expected to discuss a contract extension with the 76ers prior to the start of the 2024-25 NBA season.

Embiid is eligible to sign a three-year, maximum contract extension with the 76ers that would be worth in the region of $192 million.

As things stand, Embiid has three more seasons on his contract with the 76ers, with the last of them being a player option.

Of course, there are some concerns about Embiid. The biggest of them is his injury history. He managed to play just 39 regular season games in 23-24 and has never played more than 68 times in a single campaign in his career.

There are some question marks over Embiid's effectiveness in the postseason as well. He did show some promise in the playoff series loss to the New York Knicks last season though, averaging 33.0 points, 5.7 assists and 10.8 rebounds over 6 games.

All that being said, Embiid is the face of the 76ers and the franchise finally seem to have a team in place that can challenge for the title.

George has joined on a four-year deal. Tyrese Maxey has also signed a max extension. So, it feels like only a matter of time before Embiid is offered a big money extension as well.
