It's been nearly a decade since former San Francisco 49ers star Colin Kaepernick played a snap in the NFL, but the free-agent QB is still looking for his chance.

Kaepernick, who claims he was black-balled from the league after his kneeling protest during the national anthem, last played in 2016 as a member of the 49ers. Though it's been a while since he laced up his cleats, Kaepernick still believes he can lead an NFL team to a Super Bowl, and he wants the opportunity.

"We're still training. Still pushing. So, hopefully, we just got to get one of these team owners to open up," Kaepernick told Sky News . "It's something I've trained my whole life for. To be able to step back on the field, I think that would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me. Also, I think it's something that I could bring a lot to a team and help them win a championship."

Back in the 2013 season, Kaepernick helped the 49ers reach the Super Bowl, where they ultimately lost to the Baltimore Ravens. In that season, he threw for over 3,000 yards and 21 touchdowns while adding 524 yards rushing and 4 TDs on the ground.

Now at 36 years old, it's fair to question how impactful Kaepernick could be on the field if he were to get another chance in 2024. Though he was once very talented, nearly a decade away from the sport is likely to have an impact on his overall skill level.

If he wasn't signed by someone at any point over the last 8 years, it's hard to imagine that he will get a new opportunity soon. Fortunately, there may be a new opportunity for Kaepernick to get back on the field in the future.

Earlier this month, the former 49ers QB told Overtime that he wishes to compete for Team USA in the event and try his chances against the world.

By that time, he will be 40 years old. We'll see if Team USA gives him a chance.
