'Absolute Steal!' Eagles LB Devin White Signing Paying Off

In his first five seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Devin White definitely lived up to being the No. 5 overall pick in the draft.

A falling-out with the Bucs led to him being benched late last season and he was ultimately allowed to leave the team in free agency.

And now, at 26, the former Pro Bowler has a lot to offer the Eagles this season especially at just $4 million (not counting incentives) for the year.

"Based on his five-season performance and recent contract dispute with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Devin White's one-year, $4 million deal looks like an absolute steal,” Bleacher Report writes . “White has had some lapses in pass coverage, but when he's focused and going downhill, the veteran linebacker is a disruptive force on run downs and in the pass rush."

While his tenure in Tampa Bay didn’t end well, sometimes a change of scenery is enough to re-energize a player.

White took less money to be in Philadelphia than he was offered by other teams.

“I took less, because I felt it was a better situation,” White said . “That lets you know it ain’t about the money. It ain’t ever been about the money. It’s about being in the right situation, the right environment. and being able to have fun.”

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and his team may end up pulling off the steal of the offseason if White returns to his Pro Bowl form.

The Eagles preseason continues this week as they travel to New England to take on the Patriots on Thursday night.
