4 Twins prospects earn weekly honors

Four highly touted Minnesota Twins prospects are being recognized for their performances over the past week.
Tanner Hall was named the Florida State League’s pitcher of the week; Tanner Schobel was crowned the Texas League’s player of the week; and Andrew Morris and Brandon Winokur were named the Twins’ minor-league pitcher and hitter of the week.
Hall, 22, was the Twins’ fourth-round pick last year and was just promoted from Single-A to High-A Cedar Rapids on Monday.
Last week, he tossed 7 shutout innings, giving up just 2 hits and a walk while striking out 7.
For the season, he’s posted a 4.44 ERA with 59 strikeouts and 19 walks over 46.2 innings (15 games, nine starts).
Schobel, 23, was Minnesota’s competitive balance pick, 68th overall, in 2022.
Last week, he hit 4 homers, drove in 5 runs and swiped 2 bases to earn the weekly honor.
This season, all at Double-A Wichita, he’s slashing .222/.316/.365 with 9 home runs, 48 RBI, 48 walks, 12 stolen bases and 89 strikeouts in 342 at-bats (93 games). While his production had been waning as the season went on, he may be getting back on track, as he’s now slashing .267/.333/.700 in August.
Winokur, 19, was the Twins’ third-rounder last year. He’s spent his first full professional season at Single-A Ft. Myers and is hitting .242/.332/.399 with 9 homers, 40 RBI, 30 walks, 15 stolen bases and 91 strikeouts in 281 at-bats (73 games).
However, last week, he 2 home runs and drove in 3 while also walking 3 times and swiping a bag.
The 19-year-old is still raw and has a long way to go but he's got great potential and has spent time defensively at shortstop, third base and center field.
The 2022 fourth-round pick has a 1.99 ERA with 106 strikeouts, 21 walks and a .222 batting average against in 99.1 innings (19 games, 17 starts) across two levels this season.
Last week, he authored his longest start at Double-A, tossing 7 shutout innings while giving up just 2 hits and a walk and striking out 9.
Twins fans should get used to hearing about all four of these guys — three of whom are already rated as top-20 prospects in the system by MLB Pipeline.
Southern Mississippi starting pitcher Tanner Hall throws against Tennessee during Game 2 of the NCAA Hattiesburg super regional in Hattiesburg, Miss., Sunday, June 11, 2023.
