The St. Louis Cardinals are coming off a 6-1 series opening loss to the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark on Monday. The Reds picked up three home runs to hand the Cardinals their 59th loss of the season. St. Louis (60-59) will look to avoid moving to .500 and to even the series on Tuesday.
The game on Tuesday will feature arguably the best pitching matchup across Major League Baseball as Erick Fedde, who was recently acquired by the Cardinals at the MLB Trade Deadline will go up against 2024 All Star Hunter Greene of the Reds.
The Cardinals Need a Big Start from Erick Fedde (8-5, 3.28) on Tuesday Night after the three homers allowed by staff ace Sonny Gray on Monday. He is coming off his best start since being acquired at the trade deadline by the Cardinals with his first victory wearing the birds on the bat on August 7th against the Tampa Bay Rays . Fedde pitched 5 innings in the win, allowing only one run off four hits and recording six strikeouts and only two walks in the outing.
The Reds Hunter Greene may be one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball heading into mid August. He leads multiple categories among all National League pitchers and is making a solid case to be in contention for the NL CY Young Award at the end of the season. He currently leads the league with 5.875 H/9, an opponent batting of .186, and a 5.1 bWAR.
