Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs left practice on Monday with what's being described as a hamstring strain. We don't have official confirmation about his status, but some encouraging reporting came to light on Tuesday.

On Tuesday's Pat McAfee show, ESPN's Adam Schefter said that he doesn't know the extent of the injury, but he expects that "we will not see Jahmyr Gibbs for the rest of the summer."

However, Schefter expressed some optimism, saying, "He's going to have a real chance to be back on opening night, and the team will be smart about it until then."

Gibbs had a tremendous rookie season with the Lions, logging over 1,200 yards from scrimmage and 11 total touchdowns. He ranked fourth in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting and earned a Pro Bowl nomination as a rookie. His production in the postseason was also crucial for Detroit as he scored in all three playoff games.

Gibbs played just one season at Alabama before declaring for the NFL Draft, as the former Georgia Tech transfer produced over 1,300 yards from scrimmage and ten touchdowns with the Crimson Tide in 2022.

We'll keep you posted on any updates regarding the status of the former Alabama running back as we get closer to the start of the NFL season.
