Jets Could Have 'Lightning & Thunder' Combo With Breece Hall And Braelon Allen

The New York Jets preseason games are all about unearthing players they think can help improve their roster. They are also about confirming what they already knew about players, and for running back Braelon Allen , the Jets now know they have a great change up to Breece Hall.

Against the Washington Commanders, Allen's trademark brutality was on display as he totaled 54 yards from just six carries to lead the Jets running back room on the day easily.

With Hall seen as RB1, getting him some help in the backfield is crucial, and after Allen's efforts against Washington, they now have it.

And for CBS Sports, the duo of Hall and Allen could be a devastating combination in 2024.

"Breece Hall appears to have a legit complement in the backfield," CBS Sports writes . "That would be rookie Braelon Allen, whose big 245-pound frame translated to the pro stage against the Washington Commanders. Gang Green could have itself a lightning-and-thunder combo, if everyone stays healthy."

Last season, we saw the reliance on Hall from the Jets offense after his 223 rushing attempts; the next best was Dalvin Cook (67). That is too big a gap to have from your starter and backup.

But now, with Allen showing exactly what he can add to the Jets' backfield, it is hoped that he will see far more than 67 carries as Cook did last season. In turn, that will keep Hall fresh and allow him to make the consistent big gains we have come to see from him.

While yes, it was only one preseason game, but Allen's talents in the run game are there and having him as a change-up to Hall will only produce good things for a Jets offense that needs everything clicking.

It will be interesting to see how New York navigates the next two preseason games with Allen, but after his efforts against the Commanders, he might have already secured a roster spot as RB2.
