Aaron Rodgers Gets Brutally Honest About Playing In The Preseason

All eyes are on veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers as he embarks a new chapter with the New York Jets, aiming to resuscitate the flatlining franchise.

Jets coach Robert Saleh recently told the team's website that Rodgers could suit up in their final preseason game against the New York Giants on Aug. 24. During his media conference on Tuesday, however, Rodgers said he's "not worried" about playing since the preseason is more of a litmus test for the younger players.

Rodgers sat out their 20-17 win over the Washington Commanders on Saturday.

"Preseason is not what it used to be," Rodgers said in the video posted by SNY's Jets Videos on X. "It’s to see if young guys, once the lights go on and the pads go on and the tackling happens, if they can show up or if they don't."

"What’s there to gain? Going out there and being back on the field in a situation where you can get hit.”

The four-time MVP also made his opinion about the preseason very clear.

"Preseason, it's not real football," Rodgers said.

The Jets have long struggled to find consistency in the quarterback position, and they are pinning their hopes on the former Super Bowl champion to bring his winning pedigree.

For Rodgers, it’s an opportunity to add to his legend. The Jets haven't made it to the Super Bowl since 1969.

Before facing the Giants, the Jets will tussle with the Carolina Panthers this Saturday.
