She did not win a medal in Paris but Australian breakdancer Rachael “Raygun” Gunn continues to be the talk of the town in the land Down Under. However, not everyone in her home country is amused by how she represented Australia at the 2024 Olympics, including one of her friends and fellow b-girl, Leah Clark.

“I have been a friend of Rachael and have competed against her for many years,” said Clark (via news.com.au ). “I was so proud to watch her walk out. (But) the performance… I was a little shocked at what I saw to be totally honest,” Clark added.

Gunn has been relentlessly mocked online, though, she has put on a brave face amid the backlash . The bad news is that the negativity from her detractors has also spilled out into other breakdancers in Australia.

Clark said, “Some girls have been crying because they’re completely embarrassed to enter the next competition.”

She also added that others are “terrified” to enter competitions because of the negative perception brought by Gunn’s Olympic performance.

This isn’t the reception Gunn, a 36-year-old college professor, expected when she set out to compete in the quadrennial Summer Games. Instead of inspiring breakdancers, it appears that she has discouraged some of them from enjoying the sport.

Gunn did not win any of her three round-robin battles in Paris, as she ended her Olympic stint with an aggregate 54-0 score in favor of her opponents.
