Former NFL Star Makes Bold Prediction About Raiders' QB competition

Dez Bryant has spoken, the former NFL wide receiver took to "X" to share who he thinks should win the Raiders starting job as first reported by Josiah Caswell with Pro football network .

There was no mincing of words from Bryant as you can see, even throwing in the yardage prediction for Davante Adams which even on the low end (1,500) would be 356 more yards than he had in 2023.

As seen in against the Vikings, Minshew was moving the ball downfield more effectively than Aidan O'Connell in the first preseason game. But that is the problem, it was one preseason game, yes Minshew showed promise but it's hard to bet an entire season on a single game.

The Raiders are in the position where that's what they might have to do, it just might take one more game to make the decision because according to Vic Tafur of the Athletic , Antonio Pierce wants to know who his guy will be.

It has been said that something the Raiders have to consider is the price tag attached to Minshew, as even Caswell pointed out.

"However, Minshew has the advantage of his contract. In free agency, the Raiders signed Minshew to a two-year, $25 million deal."

I would still push back against that. The idea that just because you pay a player they have to play is old-fashioned. Yes, you don't want to make bad investments, but at the same time, the only thing anyone cares about is winning.

Having $25 million dollars on the bench is not what you want, but if O'Connell is winning games or is the best option at quarterback, purely playing Minshew because you're paying him makes no sense. It's just not a fair argument for why Minshew could or should win the starting job.

If Minshew manages to cut down on his turnovers, and hospital balls, it's hard to see a world where he isn't the starter. The reality of the situation is, that O'Connell currently protects the ball more and the Raiders' strength is defense. Yes, you lose big plays, but you also don't lose possessions as much.

All of this has been based on what we've seen from both players up to this point before the second preseason game of the year, all of this could change soon.

According to Vic Tafur in a week we're going to be talking about the new starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, so we'll see if Dez Bryant is right.
