NFL Analyst: Commanders' Jayden Daniels 'Will Hit Ground Running'

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels impressed in his one and only drive in his first preseason game against the New York Jets. He and the offense took the opening kickoff and drove 70 yards in 11 plays for an opening drive touchdown.

Daniels was 2-3 for 45 yards and ran it in from the 3-yard line for the touchdown. As you can imagine, that only sent the hype for the young quarterback through the roof.

It’s not just fans that are excited, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer was on the Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday and he believes the Commanders are on the right track with Daniels.

“The Commanders are starting from ground zero so I think a big part of making Jayden Daniels win the job is you want to make everyone win their job, especially when you are telling Bobby Wagner, Jonathan Allen or Terry McLaurin that every position is open,” Breer said.

“You’re trying to preach competition, so I think everyone there knows the score. He’s taking all of the first-team reps, operating as the first-team starter would. I think because of the offense they are going to run here; he has a real chance to hit the ground running as a rookie.”

Long-suffering Commanders fans are hoping that Breer is right. Daniels will get more playing time this week, and if he performs at the same level that he did last week, D.C. just might explode.

The Commanders continue their preseason schedule this week as they travel to Miami to play the Dolphins Saturday night.
