Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels had an outstanding debut in the first preseason game of his career. An opening drive touchdown, great decision making and a precision pass down the right sideline for a big play had everyone buzzing.

It wasn’t just the media and fans either. In a conversation with NBC Sports’ JP Finley , running back Austin Ekeler had some glowing words for the No. 2 overall pick.

“Jayden’s out there changing progressions, changing routes, that’s what I want to see from him,'' Ekeler said. "I know that his growth is on a good trajectory because of that.”

If you haven’t heard by now, the big play down the right side to receiver Dyami Brown was originally a wide receiver screen called by coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. When Daniels surveyed the field, he knew that play would work because of the defensive alignment. He checked out of it and hit the bomb to Brown.

Daniels is progressing quickly and that could have a major positive impact on how the season goes or the Commanders.

Washington travels to Miami to take on the Dolphins on Saturday night. Daniels is scheduled to play, although we don’t know how much. Hopefully we get a few series just to see how he handles the flow of the game.

Kickoff is at 6:00 p.m. EST.
