Paul Finebaum Names College Football Playoff Contender That's Not 'That Good'

Last season was remarkable for the Florida State Seminoles as they went 13-1 under Mike Norvell and won the ACC championship in Year 4.

It was the Seminoles' first undefeated regular season since 2014. However, similar to 2014, the season ended on a sour note. In 2014, the team experienced a blowout loss in the inaugural College Football Playoff. In 2023, the team was not even invited to play in the playoffs, marking the first time an undefeated Power Five champion did not make the College Football Playoff.

The Seminoles are ranked No. 10 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll . ESPN's Paul Finebaum has an issue with that. Finebaum stated that he doesn't believe the Seminoles are that good and thinks they shouldn't be ranked in the top 20, let alone the top 10.

"I don't think they're really that good," Finebaum said. "I think I ended up on a show today, and I should have clarified it; I think they're a 20-25 type of team. They are not a top 20 team in my mind."

Finebaum mentioned that the Seminoles have an unproven quarterback who has failed several times in his career. He also believes that the "guts" of their success are gone.

Finebaum concluded by saying that the Miami Hurricanes are a better team and that there are other schools that can also defeat the Seminoles. Only time will tell if the Seminoles can prove the preseason AP poll right by ranking them as a top-10 team.
