Paul Finebaum Reveals His Biggest Problem With Deion Sanders
By Kevin Borba,
ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum has never been shy about airing his grievances regarding coaches around college football.
He once called Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin the Miley Cyrus of college football, he's been adamant that Lincoln Riley is overhyped this offseason, and as of late, he has been going after Deion Sanders for his treatment of the media.
While making an appearance on ESPN's First Take earlier this week, Finebaum went as far as to call Sanders' treatment of the local media " disgraceful ". The Harsh assessment came after Sanders refused to take questions from a local CBS affiliate, and after he accused a reporter from the Denver Post of disliking he and the program.
"I’m not doing anything with CBS,” Sanders told Eric Christensen of KCNC. “Next question... It ain’t got nothing to do with you. It’s above that. It ain’t got nothing to do with you. I’ve got love for you. I appreciate and respect you. It ain’t got nothing to do with you. They know what they did.”
Finebaum's comments that saw him call Sanders' behavior "disgraceful" and a "terrible look" came at the end of his air time, so he didn't elaborate too much. However, he did say he would go into more detail on Matt Barrie's podcast.

Luckily for those who love a good Finebaum rant, we didn't have to wait for his podcast appearance to hear his frustrations. Finebaum made an appearance on ESPN's Get Up Wednesday morning. It saw him predict Colorado's record, and also reveal what his biggest problem with Sanders is.
"I think they're looking at about a .500 season record which isn't all that impressive when you consider the amount of energy and hype and overhype I should say to this program," Finebaum told Mike Greenberg . "It's...Deion Sanders is a superstar we all know that. But Colorado is nothing. They're just another school in the middle of nowhere in a third-rate league.
"The problem I have with Deion Sanders is his attitude," Finebaum explained. "Last year he embraced it he was the king of college football for five weeks. He's already off to a terrible start. He started a food fight last weekend with the local media which is a big mistake. He's very defensive and I think he's in for a very difficult second year in Boulder."
FanDuel currently has Colorado's win total at 5.5, which shows they are expected to be around a fringe bowl-contending team despite Sanders' playoff proclamations. They don't have any time to get their sea legs under them either, as they open the season with one of the best FCS programs in the land, North Dakota State.
The Bison won nine FCS titles from 2011-21, and are ranked as the No. 2 team in the country at that level. Working in favor of Colorado, they do have Shedeur Sanders at quarterback coming off a year that saw him throw 27 touchdowns to three picks. They also have two-way star Travis Hunter who won the Paul Hornung Award for being the most versatile player in college football.
All eyes will be on Sanders and the Buffs this season again to see if they can live up to the self-generated hype, and someone who will seemingly be ready to jump on them at the first slip-up may be Finebaum himself.
