For the first time in the history of the WNBA, Indianapolis will play host to the league’s All-Star Game in 2025. Although several outlets had already reported about it as early as Wednesday, this development became official following a word from WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert Thursday morning.

“We are excited to bring AT&T WNBA All-Star to Indiana for the first time,” Engelbert said in a statement published on the league’s official website on Thursday.

“The city of Indianapolis and the entire state of Indiana have such an incredible and enduring passion for the game of basketball, making the region the perfect host to celebrate the WNBA and the game’s greatest stars.”

It is no secret why the WNBA decided to bring the midseason festivities in 2025 to Indianapolis, and it can be best summed up in two words: Caitlin Clark.

With Clark’s tremendous impact on the WNBA, it’s just wise for the league to make Indiana Fever’s home the location for the All-Star next year.

But in addition to the Caitlin Clark effect, another big factor why Indianapolis would make for a perfect All-Star Game host is the fact that basketball is the no. 1 sport in the state of Indiana.

This also means that Gainbridge Fieldhouse will host All-Star games in consecutive years, with the NBA holding its version of the event last February. The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game, meanwhile, is scheduled for July 19.
