One Exec Believes Browns 'Dodged A Bullet' On Brandon Aiyuk Trade

The Cleveland Browns were in the Brandon Aiyuk trade situation for less than a week before dropping out. Well, they didn’t really drop out, the San Francisco star receiver said he wasn’t going to Cleveland and is now down to two options.

He can stay in San Francisco, or be traded to Browns division rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Browns offer reportedly included receiver Amari Cooper who not only wants to remain in Cleveland, he wants to retire here. One exec, however, says the Browns are better off without Aiyuk.

“They didn’t need Brandon Aiyuk,” the exec said. “I think they actually dodged a bullet by not trading for him. That was too much to give up, along with a new extension, for him. He’s good, but he’s not that good.”

Aiyuk led the 49ers in receiving last year but was their second offensive option behind running back Christian McCaffrey. Let’s not forget that Deebo Samuel is also on this team.

On Tuesday, reports were that the deal between San Francisco and Pittsburgh was just waiting on the 49ers approval, but they are still working to potentially get to a number that will keep Aiyuk by the Bay.

The Browns have a pretty good receiver corps already. Chemistry matters, and based on the public shenanigans we’ve seen from Aiyuk this offseason, this exec may be 100 percent correct.
