Basketball and video game fans alike are all looking forward to NBA 2K25, which is set to be released on Friday, Sept. 6.

On Thursday, August 15, fans were able to see what some of the top WNBA players were rated. Seeing who the top-rated player in video games is always interesting, but many fans were waiting for the rating of two particular players.

In an era of sports where it has often felt like rivalries aren't as common because all players seem to be friends, the WNBA could very well have the biggest rivalry between players across sports between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.

Their rivalrous relationship got its start back when Clark was leading Iowa on miracle runs in college, and Reese was leading what was a super-team at LSU to a title a couple of seasons ago. Reese's Tigers squad blew out Clark's Hawkeyes in the 2023 title game, and Reese hit Clark with the infamous "you can't see me" gesture. Clark and Iowa got revenge the following season in the tournament, taking down Reese's Tigers in the Elite Eight.

The perceived bad blood between the two was only magnified by fans across the sport and didn't end once they finished college. It has continued on into the WNBA after Clark was taken No. 1 by the Indiana Fever, and Reese No. 7 by the Chicago Sky. Their head-to-head matchups have shattered viewership records, and also seen instances of Reese cheering on Clark getting shoved to the ground, and one instance saw Reese smack her in the head on a layup attempt which has only fueled the rivalry chatter more.

On top of their on-the-court battles, they are the two frontrunners for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award, and fans and analysts alike seem to be quite split on who should win. FanDuel has Clark as the major front-runner with -2000 odds, while Reese is the only other player with betting odds at +700.

So, when their first video game ratings dropped on Thursday, one could imagine fans weren't thrilled to see that they had the same rating.

Both Clark and Reese were tied for having the top rankings among rookies with a 90 overall apiece, and it has drawn mixed reviews.

One fan felt 2K knew what they were doing with these ratings writing , "2K said yall not about to have us a part of yall stupid a** debates. We gonna make Angel and Caitlin the same rating. I don’t blame them at all lol".

Another said , "that’s a cop out by 2k lol". Another fan wrote , "I don’t even play wnba 2k but Jesus Christ they be tryna put Angel on CC level so bad & she’s just not there yet lol".

Regardless of what fans think about the ratings, both Clark and Reese have hit the ground running as rookies. Clark is averaging 17.1 points per game and leading the league in assists with 8.2 per game. She also earned the No. 15 ranking in ESPN's WNBA midseason player rankings . As for Reese, she is averaging 13.5 points and 11.9 rebounds per game, which is second in the league behind A'ja Wilson's 12.0. In terms of the midseason rankings, Reese was a few spots behind Clark at No. 19.

We haven't seen either of them play since they helped the WNBA All-Stars beat Team USA before the 2024 Paris Olympics. Reese and the Sky return to action first, as the play host to the Phoenix  Mercury on Thursday night. As for Clark and the Fever, they will actually return to action on Friday against the Mercury.
