ESPN has fired popular analyst Robert Griffin III, according to an Aug. 15 report from The Athletic's Andrew Marchand . Sam Ponder was also let go by the network as a part of "cost-cutting moves," per Marchand.

Shortly after the news broke on Thursday, Griffin's wife, Grete Griffin , posted a simple message for her husband on social media.

"When a window closes, a door will open✨," the 34-year-old's partner wrote on X.

She also reposted a cryptic message from her husband earlier in the day that said, "There are people in your circle saying they want you to win, but doing everything they can to make you lose. Don’t be afraid to cut people off when they keep handing you the scissors."

Grete Sadeiko, who became an American citizen on Sept. 8, 2022, is an accomplished track and field athlete from Estonia. She competed at Florida State University after participating in the World Junior Championships in 2010 and 2012.

The Griffins got engaged in 2017 and married in March 2018 after welcoming their first of three daughters together.

According to Marchand, "Griffin’s stock had fallen, making him a prime candidate to be let go. While his seven-figure-per-year salary will be honored, his role had diminished to a point where ESPN decided to not keep him on."

The former No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL draft had two years remaining on his ESPN contract after originally signing with the four-letter network in 2021.
