Jokes Are Pouring In After Robert Griffin’s First Post Following ESPN Firing

Robert Griffin III is no longer with ESPN. The college and NFL football analyst was let go, along with Sam Ponder, as a part of "budget moves," according to a report from the Athletic's Andrew Marchand on Thursday.

Griffin won the Heisman Trophy in 2011 after leading the Baylor Bears to a 10-3 record. He was drafted by the Washington Commanders with the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL draft and went on to play nine seasons as a pro, including stints with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens.

Griffin signed with ESPN in 2021 to cover college football and appear on 'NFL Live'. He later joined Monday Night Countdown in 2022 to replace Randy Moss but was replaced by former Philadelphia Eagle Travis Kelce ahead of the 2024 season.

He had two years remaining on his contract, according to the report.

Griffin made a rather unexpected post shortly after the news broke of ESPN's decision to let him go. While you might expect a response regarding the news, instead, Griffin elected to share his take on the Atlanta Falcons trading for New England Patriots pass rusher Matthew Judon.

    And fans are making jokes.

"Didn’t you just get fired?," one response wrote.

"Tweeting through the pain. Love to see it," a user added.

One fan alluded to the Griffin's recent post featuring a photo of him and his wife eating a croissant as the reason for his ESPN exit.

"Learn your lesson in terms of the croissant picture. You will flourish elsewhere," the response said.

Jokes aside, Griffin has plenty of followers that would like to see him continue his media career elsewhere.

"Big things in your future my man. Keep working, keep hustling, people recognize your talent," a fan wrote.

It's safe to assume that Griffin will be coveted by other media outlets. He holds a massive following on social media, including 2.2 million followers on X (formerly Twitter) and 715,000 followers on Instagram.
