Robert Griffin III Gives Perfect Response to ESPN Firing

In what is being described as "budgetary cuts," Robert Griffin III was fired by ESPN on Thursday after four years, according to The Athletic's Andrew Marchand . This decision came despite Griffin still having two years left on his contract.

For what would normally be a tough situation, the former NFL quarterback seems to be handling his release with a light-hearted approach. Like many do these days, he took to social media to react to the news of his firing.

Using a scene from the 1995 film Friday , Griffin delivered what might be the best response possible, all things considered.

In the scene, John Witherspoon's character, Willie Jones, looks at his son Craig, played by Ice Cube, and bluntly asks, "How the h*** you gonna get fired on your day off?"

Griffin was once considered one of ESPN's more popular personalities, serving as a staple of both college football and NFL coverage. However, his popularity has seemingly waned in recent times.

"Since Griffin’s stock had fallen, it made him a prime candidate to be let go," Marchand wrote. "While his seven-figure per year salary will be honored, his role had diminished to a point where ESPN decided not to keep him on.

"The first real sign Griffin was being dropped in the order was when he was removed from Monday Night Countdown , where he had been a key part of the prime pregame show for two years. ESPN hired Jason Kelce this offseason to replace Griffin."

It's uncertain what Griffin will do next, though he was considered for a role at Fox Sports before signing with ESPN.
