Surprising Actor Cast as Legendary John Madden in Highly-Anticipated 'Madden' Biopic

A highly-anticipated sports movie is getting closer to production, and some major news was released about the cast on Thursday.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nicholas Cage has been tabbed as the leading man in David O'Russell's upcoming 'Madden' movie, which will be a biopic about the legendary John Madden and his career.

Cage has been cast as Madden in the project.

The movie will come from Amazon MGM Studios and be directed by 'ORussell, who also made hits like Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.

Rather than just a movie about Madden's career, the Hollywood Reporter claims that this movie will also be in large part about the ultra-popular "Madden" video game that has found unending success from EA Sports over the last several decades.

After his legendary coaching career with the Los Angeles Raiders, where Madden went 112-39-7, he spent over three decades as a broadcaster and won a total of 16 Sports Emmy's during his run. Madden was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006 before passing away in 2021.

Cage is an intriguing pick to play Madden, as he is widely regarded as one of the more polarizing actors in the landscape right now. He has had massive hits like National. Treasure , Red Rock West , and Face/Off, and was also a member of the recently critically acclaimed thriller Longlegs.
