Vikings: Blake Cashman undergoes surgery on finger

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said after Thursday's joint practice with the Cleveland Browns that linebacker Blake Cashman suffered a finger injury that required surgery.

The injury happened on Wednesday during the first joint practice and he continued to play through it.

"Blake Cashman did sustain a finger injury, somehow, really happened early on in the practice and somehow played the whole rest of the way," O'Connell said. "He had a procedure done. As soon as... stitches heal up he will be good to go."

Cashman, a Minnesota native and former Golden Gopher, signed with his home state team during free agency after spending the past five seasons with the New York Jets and Houston Texans.

He's tallied 181 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in 44 games. Cashman also has one interception and three fumble recoveries.

The Vikings welcomed Cashman's relatively good news with more good news on Thursday as it was learned wide receiver Jordan Addison's ankle injury isn't as serious as initially thought and he'll be ready by Week 1 next month.

It can't be said for others, such as rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy who was ruled out for the entire 2024 season after requiring surgery for a full repair of his meniscus.

The Vikings have dealt with a lot of misfortunes this summer. Some of those include rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson being tragically killed in a three-vehicle crash in July, and cornerback Mekhi Blackmon suffering an ACL injury in the first practice that ultimately ended his season.
