Red Sox Nearing Reunion With 44-Year-Old MLB Veteran

The Boston Red Sox are bringing back a familiar face to add rotational depth.

The organization and 19-year MLB veteran Rich Hill are nearing an agreement on a minor league deal, per Rob Bradford. The expectation is that the southpaw will be sent to Triple-A Worchester.

The 44-year-old reportedly had offers from the Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics, and Pittsburgh Pirates last winter after pitching in front of scouts, via Mass Live. But, he decided to hold off until his 12-year-old son finished his Little League season.

Hill pitched for the Red Sox in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2022. He's also a Massachusetts native. The lefty hasn't pitched at all in 2024. This move comes at a good time for Boston after James Paxton suffered a serious calf injury last weekend. The team needs another starter.
