Brittney Griner was recently asked about her matchup with Chicago Sky center Kamilla Cardoso before the Phoenix Mercury visited the Sky in their first game back from the WNBA break.

Griner mentioned that she was excited to play against someone her size since Cardoso is listed at 6-foot-7, and she's listed at 6-foot-9.

The Mercury veteran seems to thrive against players of that stature, posting 23 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and five blocks in the 85-65 victory.

She spoke after the game about the matchup with Cardoso, mentioning that she looked forward to the contest. While she never goes into a match with a predetermined game plan, she was proud of her performance against the Sky.

"I always like going up against people my size," Griner said. "I looked forward to it tonight, and I was happy with it... I don't ever go into a game like let me try to stretch it out more on this one. I just kind of read how they playing me. What the matchup is, if they send help and that just kind of dictates what I want to do that night. But, I was happy with how it went."

Before the Mercury's matchup against the Sky, Griner was averaging 18.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

While there were questions surrounding Griner's and a few other stars' fatigues, like Diana Taurasi's and Kahleah Copper's, since all three players were coming off the Summer Olympics, they picked up right where they left off.

Griner exceeded her season averages and had an extremely successful night against an up-and-coming star.

The Mercury will look to build on that victory on Friday. They have a quick turnaround, facing Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on the road at 7:30 p.m. ET.
