Angel Reese Reveals What Doomed Sky In Mercury Blowout

Angel Reese came out with another strong performance on Thursday as she put up an 11-point, 15-rebound double-double against the Phoenix Mercury. This was the Chicago Sky rookie's 18th double-double of the season, which is the second most by a first-year player in the history of the WNBA.

Reese also logged her 118th offensive rebound of the campaign, which is another record for any Sky player in a single season.

Be that as it may, Reese was in no mood to talk about any record after the game. This comes as no surprise after Chicago was on the wrong end of an utter beatdown courtesy of Kahleah Copper, Brittney Griner and the rest of the Mercury, 85-65.

Reese, however, was more than happy to discuss what went wrong for her team.

“Even if our offensive shots aren't falling, we gotta play defense,” Reese said. “I think they just made a lot of great shots. They took a lot of great shots, shot really well from the three. They shot 52 percent from the three, which is really, really good. So when a team does that, you have to knock shots down.”

The Mercury shot the lights out as a unit in this one, going 33-of-59 on their attempts (55.9%) while also connecting on 52.2% of their deep balls. Chicago, on the other hand, shot 37.0% overall and made just four out of their 19 shots from beyond the arc.

As Reese stated in her post-game press conference, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine what doomed Chicago in this one -- on both ends of the floor.

The Sky return to action on Saturday against the 6-19 Los Angeles Sparks, which should present itself as an opportunity for Reese and Co. to get back to winning ways.
