The Ohio State Buckeyes enter the 2024 season with a lot of expectations. They are ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press preseason top 25 poll and are a common pick to win the Big Ten Conference.

They have big additions such as Kansas State transfer QB Will Howard, Ole Miss transfer RB Quinshon Judkins, and Alabama transfer safety Caleb Downs, among others.

Another big addition is former UCLA head coach Chip Kelly, who came to Columbus and became Ryan Day's offensive coordinator.

With plenty of changes on offense, the scheme and system will look much different than it did in 2023.

Current college football analyst and former head coach Urban Meyer spoke about the new-look Buckeyes offense in an episode of The Herd With Colin Cowherd.

“This Chip Kelly offense is completely different than the so-called radical offense that he ran when he was the head coach at Oregon,” Meyer said. “It’s completely different. And I do believe it’s going to help Ohio State. They’ve got the quarterback that fits this scheme.”

When Kelly was the head coach for the Oregon Ducks, they had an electrifying offense year after year. During his four years as head coach in Eugene, the Ducks finished in the top-10 in scoring every year, including a first-place finish in 2010 (47 PPG).

Kelly also compiled an eye-popping 46-7 record, including three Pac-12 titles, a Fiesta Bowl win, and a Rose Bowl victory.

However, even with those stats, Urban Meyer explained why the Buckeyes offense will be "different" than the one he had at Oregon.

“He is now the perfect play guy,” Meyer said. “He is the guy that is going to huddle, take your time and get the perfect play on. That is drastically different than what he was as a head coach at Oregon. I’m anxious to see it.”

The Ducks were widely known for their hurry-up offense, something that was a new wrinkle for many opposing defensive coordinators.

Now, with Will Howard officially being named the starting quarterback , Meyer thinks it will be a more methodical approach.

With all of the weapons at Ohio State and a new play-caller in Chip Kelly, there are a ton of expectations for them entering the 2024 campaign.

The Chip Kelly-led offense in Columbus will be something to watch, and we will get the first look on August 31 against Akron.
