'So You're Saying There's A Chance!' Russell Wilson On Steelers Contending This Season

Last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers won 10 games with one of the worst offenses in the league. Following the season, the Steelers signed veteran free-agent quarterback Russell Wilson to be their starter.

Subsequently, they traded disappointing former first-round pick Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Wilson looked great throughout OTAs and mandatory minicamps but injured his calf during conditioning tests at the onset of training camp. But that hasn’t dampened his spirits at all.

Finally healthy, Wilson will start this week’s preseason game against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night. Wilson was recently asked what he thought his team’s chances were of contending for a championship this season.

"I think we have a great chance, but my dad used to say, 'Potential doesn't mean anything, you haven't done it yet,'" Wilson said. "So, we gotta do it and that's the great part about this game."

Any given Sunday and whatnot. The Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since 2016. Wilson was also asked what makes the Steelers special this time of year.

"What I learned is what I already kinda knew playing against the Steelers all these years. Our toughness, our mental fortitude," Wilson added. "We had six practices in a row. That's not normal in the National Football League anymore. I think it's what it takes to be great. It's what it takes to win."

Wilson has persevered through the last three seasons and looks to get his career back on track in Pittsburgh. A good showing against the Bills should go a long way to solidifying his role as the starter and the leader of this team.
