Patriots Star's Awkward Comment About Bill Belichick Raises Concerns in New England

When arguably the greatest coach in NFL history leaves your team and is replaced by a first-year head coach, you're going to spend the offseason in a transition mode, remembering back to what you had under the previous regime.

But when the season starts, it's eyes forward focusing on the now.

Unless you're New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson, apparently. On Thursday night during the Patriots' preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Stevenson was part of an incredibly awkward sideline interview that is now raising some concern in New England.

Stevenson was asked by the reporter about "the guy who just left," and who he was being replaced by. The question was referring to star pass-rusher Matthew Judon, who was traded to the Atlanta Falcons earlier in the day.

Stevenson still had Belichick on his mind, though, and answered in turn.

“I miss Bill,” Stevenson said, as captured by Awful Announcing . “That was one of my favorite coaches."

When Stevenson was told that the question was about Judon, things got even worse.

"Oh, Judon?” Stevenson said, “He’s moving on to better places. At least a different place.”

In this instance, it would seem that "different" is certainly better, as the Patriots are expected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL this season. With a brand new coaching staff led by former player Jerrod Mayo, and a new quarterback — No. 3 overall draft pick Drake Maye — it could be a bumpy ride for the next year in New England.

Don't be surprised if players spend the next few months remembering what they had under Belichick while wishing that they were in a different place, like Judon.
